Viera Hospital Adds 20 Beds With New Fifth-Floor Patient Wing
Health First opened a new fifth-floor wing at Viera Hospital on October 5, raising capacity from 98 to 118 beds with new maternal recovery rooms, OB triage bays, and a 16-bed surgical unit.
Viera Hospital grew to 118 beds this month. Health First opened a 20-bed expansion on the fifth floor of the hospital on Monday, October 5, 2026, with staff holding a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the occasion.
The expansion converts previously unfinished space on the fifth floor into new patient rooms, raising the hospital's total capacity from 98 beds. The new wing includes:
- Four rooms for maternal recovery and postpartum care
- Two additional OB emergency triage bays
- A new 16-bed surgical unit supporting the hospital's surgical, orthopedic, and Joint Center programs
The wing also introduces smart room technology designed to improve communication between patients and caregivers. Health First says the technology will eventually roll out to all four of its hospitals.
The fifth-floor expansion is part of a longer-term investment at the Viera campus. Health First says it is also advancing plans for a new patient tower and an ambulatory surgery center focused on orthopedic and spine care, and it is pursuing around $800 million in capital investment around Brevard County.
